The Minister for Tourism also shed light on the status of the tourism industry, including the fact that visitors’ holidays should remain uninterrupted by new health measures put in place for the community. Over 24,100 visitors have landed in the country since March 25, 2021.

“Looking at the number of visitors per day, we see that the decision made by the government to restart tourism was a good one as we see the accomplishments in the industry these past few weeks. Seychelles is open for tourism and for now, no other measures will be taken which might impede the industry. The destination offers visitors an option of being on holiday without compromising their safety or that of their loved ones and we are confident that with the support of our industry partners, it will remain possible,” said Minister Radegonde.

The destination is currently receiving around 500 daily visitors. Minister Radegonde revealed that while many travellers are choosing larger establishments, 37% of visitors are opting for small establishments and self-catering accommodation across all three islands; Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. This trend reflects a desire to experience authentic Creole hospitality.

Whilst presenting these figures, Minister Radegonde stressed the significance of the tourism industry for the destination, bringing with it a multitude of benefits to all segments of the economy.

Present at the press brief, the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) Chief Executive, Mrs Sherin Francis, emphasised the continued efforts of her team to keep visitors engaged. She stated that STB is working closely with our tourism partners around the globe to increase the visibility of Seychelles as a destination.

In his closing statements, Minister Radegonde urged the local industry to continue to provide excellent and safe services to visitors.
